Fun Fact: The department was funded in 1976 with prof. César Pérez as its first director.
Mission
The Department of Physics and Chemistry of the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo contributes to the scientific and technological development of Puerto Rico by offering an education of excellence in the areas of physics, chemistry, technology and engineering. It educates and trains in the field of chemical engineering technology by offering the Associate of Technology in Chemical Engineering and Bachelor of Technology in Industrial Chemical Process programs. It collaborates in the training of future engineers by offering the Articulated Transfer program to the Bachelor in Engineering of the Mayagüez University Campus in its different concentrations. It actively participates in the academic training of students from other UPRA programs, offering physics and chemistry courses relevant to their curricula. In addition, it promotes undergraduate research and community service as valuable tools in a comprehensive education process.
Goals
- Offer the courses required by the Associate of Technology in Chemical Engineering, Bachelor of Technology in Industrial Chemical Process, and Articulated Engineering Transfer to the Mayagüez University Campus programs so that students complete their academic degrees in the established time.
- Offer a varied academic offering consistent with the requirements of other academic programs within the UPR University System.
- Meet the academic and professional goals of our students and graduates.
