Welcome, New Students!

The Physics-Chemistry Department is a multidisciplinary department that is comprised of the following areas: chemistry, physics, and chemical engineering technologies.

The department offers four academic programs: Associate of Technology in Chemical Engineering, Bachelor of Technology in Industrial Chemical Processes, Post-Bachelor of Technology in Industrial Chemical Processes, and Articulated Transfer for Engineering to the Mayagüez University Campus.

Student Outcomes in our Department

  • Select and apply concepts, techniques, skills, and updated resources chemical engineering technology.
  • Select and apply concepts of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology in the assessment and solution of technological problems related to chemical processes.
  • Conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments and apply the results in the evaluation of a chemical process.
  • Design systems, components or processes for technological problems related to chemical processes.
  • Work efficiently as a member or leader of a technical team.

The department offers a variety of courses in the areas of chemistry and physics for other programs of the Institution.

The faculty is committed to academic excellence and actively participates in congresses, seminars and conferences related to its area of ​​expertise. The professional development of the faculty is continuous and is supported by institutional funds for these purposes. The faculty of the department has intensified its academic work by placing emphasis on undergraduate research.

Professor Ángel Acosta constantly works on researching the caves in Puerto Rico.

The physical facilities of the department include: seven specialized laboratories, four classrooms and a computer center for students.
