Physics Concepts and Activities, Elementary Level

Posted on October 11, 2024October 12, 2024 by edwincaballero

Prof. Pedro Martínez gives workshop on concepts of physics at the elementary level for science teachers. The workshop was given in room AC-336 (ISMul) at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo.

Important concepts and activities related to Physical Sciences were covered, starting from what matter is, elements, compounds and mixtures with their physical and chemical properties, to their connection with electromagnetic radiation. For all these diverse topics, different experiments were covered, such as: density of an irregular solid by displacement of water, separation of heterogeneous mixtures, density manipulations in liquids, exothermic reactions, demonstration of manipulation of mechanical waves using chemistry, and finally, optics and creation of holograms among other optical illusions. These experiments demonstrated how a link could be established between theory and reality in a way that would make it easier for teachers to teach them in their classrooms using accessible materials.
